7 Cops to Be Disciplined in Sean Bell Shooting

NEW YORK (AP)  -- Seven New York police officers are facing disciplinary charges in the fatal shooting of an unarmed man on his wedding day.

Police officials confirmed Tuesday that administrative charges were brought against three detectives acquitted last month of criminal charges [WCBS 880].

Three other officers and a supervisor were also hit with administrative charges. The charges could result in their firing.

Twenty-three-year-old Sean Bell died in a hail of 50 bullets in 2006 after his bachelor party at a bar. Two friends were seriously wounded.

The police defendants said at trial that they opened fire because they believed Bell and his friends were armed. No weapon was recovered.
