Whose Feet Did You Inherit?
Most people do not realize that 95% of foot problems are hereditary.
Take note the next time a family member says “Oh, my aching feet!” Do they have painful bunions, hammer toes, or other foot problems? Will you have the same problem someday?
Feet are not supposed to hurt. Everyone should have his or her feet evaluated by a podiatrist. Early diagnosis and intervention is the key to avoiding foot problems in the future.
Today, many podiatrists use the latest digital diagnostic tools, such as digital x-rays, to identify potential foot problems. In addition, they use non-invasive or, minimally invasive, treatments.
At Adler Footcare, we use this approach so you can avoid suffering from foot pain in the future.
Fungal Nails
So…why aren’t you wearing those gorgeous new sandals?
You are embarrassed because your nail has changed color and it hurts when you walk?
You may have a fungal nail that needs to be diagnosed and treated by a podiatrist. A culture should be sent to a lab to confirm the condition, and appropriate the medication prescribed.
When a fungal nail is left untreated, the fungus first attacks the nail bed, and then the nail itself. You now have the potential for a painful infection.
Adler Footcare carries an exclusive line of an anti-fungal nail polish from NovaNail RX. This product, available only by prescription, “conceals while it heals”. This polish comes in clear, as well as in several fashion colors.
So now, you can treat your fungal nails and wear those sandals that you love…and no one will know your secret!
The Forgotten Foot
How much do you really know about your feet? Did you ever have an annual physical that included an evaluation of your feet?
It is time we pay tribute to our hard working feet.
The average American takes 3,500 steps a day, and New Yorkers even more. And, your feet support all of your body’s weight!
The foot is actually a very complex machine that contains 28 bones. This is one quarter of all the bones in the body. In addition, there are several muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Podiatrist use Digital Gait Analysis on athletes. This test captures a video that indicates if their feet are out of bio-mechanical alignment. The output of this test is a pressure map of each foot. This map is used to determine the best approach to bringing them into alignment.
Adler Footcare is one of the few offices in the tri-state that has this technology available in their office.
Digital Gait Analysis is not just for world class athletes. You, too, deserve to be pain free!
Suffering From Morning Heel Pain?
Do you experience a piercing pain in your heel when you get up in the morning? Does it sometimes get better as the day goes on…only to bother you again the next morning? Are you afraid that you will need surgery?
You may be suffering from plantar fasciitis. This condition exists when the plantar fascia, the tendon that is on the bottom of the foot, is pulling on the heel bone. You need to see a podiatry to accurately diagnose and treat this condition.
Pain in the heel does not always mean surgery. Adler Footcare has been successful in using non-invasive procedures to treat plantar fasciitis, including physical therapy and the use of orthotics made out of light weight materials.
Remember: You should not be suffering from heel pain, because
“Feet are not supposed to hurt”.
Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) — for your feet
In many fields of medicine, MIS has become the newest approach to surgery. Did you know that there are Podiatrists who have been performing MIS for over 30 years?
The traditional approach to surgery for bunions and hammertoes involves 4.5 inch long incisions, stitches, and many weeks of painful healing. During this time you are required to be off your feet. Often wires or other hardware are used to stabilize the bones. There are many podiatrists who still use this traditional approach.
Don’t let the fear of a long recovery time, or ugly scars keep you from having bunion or hammer toe surgery.
Dr. Jeffrey L .Adler of Adler Footcare is one of the pioneers of minimally invasive foot surgery. He uses a “pin prick” incision when correcting bunions and hammer toes. Since this small incision closes up on itself, no stitches are necessary. In addition, the typical patient can be back at their desk job in four or five days.
Remember: Minimally invasive surgery also means
- minimal healing time
- minimal discomfort, and
- the tiniest of scars.
The Modern Podiatrist
Podiatrists are the only doctors that specialize exclusively on the foot. Since the Egyptian times, foot doctors were concerned with alleviating the pain of corns and calluses (C&C). There still exist some podiatrists who have C&C as the main focus of their practices.
The modern approach to podiatry embraces the changes taking place in patient care and technology. This includes use of
- pain management
- digital diagnostic technology
- physical therapy
- non-invasive treatment, and
- minimally invasive surgery.
Adler Footcare is recognized as leading the way in modern podiatry. Both of our offices, in Midtown Manhattan, and White Plains, New York, are tranquil settings, designed for the comfort and convenience of our patients.
Once seated in the comfortable podiatric chair, the medical staff at Adler Footcare brings all services into the patient’s exam room. This includes physical therapy, diagnostic testing, and non-invasive treatments.
In addition, all of our minimally invasive surgeries are performed in our in-office operatory, by the same medical staff that you have you have come to know and respect.
Modern podiatrists, like those at Adler Footcare,
- understand that the modern patient demands the best, and
- respect that the patient’s comfort and convenient are critically important.
