Andrew Evans

I was brought on at WCBS 880 in May 2004.  The people I work with at WCBS are the best in the business, and I can say that after working in so many places.  As you’ll see my background is all over the news map.

My father runs a newspaper in upstate New York.  I was born into the industry, and became a reporter for him straight out of college.  Ironically, I went to school in the city only three blocks away from WCBS.  It took me eight years to move three blocks, so it really is hard to find a place in Manhattan.  My first job in radio was as an intern for Howard Stern.  I wanted to do nothing else, but work in radio thereafter.  I took a part-time job as DJ at a small station in my hometown for a year.  Moved to Los Angeles and worked as a reporter for a tabloid magazine.  Then it was onto all news radio station KFWB where I interviewed with Crys Quimby; who's now the program director for WCBS.  She told me about the job, and had me go out into the newsroom to get a feel for the environment.  Not a moment too soon, the news breaks that Phil Hartman’s dead.  Chaos erupts in Hollywood!  The newsroom is in an all-out blitz.  20 minutes later, she calls me back into her office and asks if I'd be interested in the job.

After KFWB, I shifted to public radio and worked for KPFK in Los Angeles where I picked up an AP Award. Then I was off to DC to work for legendary newstalk station WMAL.

My travels eventually brought me back to New York.  I’m happy to report, I love working for WCBS. I’m part of the morning crew.   There are too many responsibilities to list.  So, in essence, it’s my job during morning drive is to assist the assistant news director.
