NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Forget the feud, a Red Sox fan has donated bone marrow to help the son of a Yankees fan.
WCBS Reporter Catherine Cioffi says four-year-old Matthew Welling is already a die-hard Yankee fan, and he has already learned an important lesson.
Yankee fans and Red Sox fans can be friends.
Welling has a rare bone marrow disease, he recieved bone marrow from Red Sox fanatic Steven Karas.
Matthew Welling's dad, Micheal, says the two families still joke about their rivalry.
"I think in my wife's first correspondence with him she said 'we hope you're not a Red Sox fan because we are die-hard Yankee fans'," said Welling.
Now the two families have come together to raise awareness about being a bone marrow donor.
