Body Found on RT 21; 2 Men Arrested

PASSAIC -- Two New Jersey men have been arrested in connection to a murder.

Captain Tony Zampino of the Passaic Police Department says three men went out drinking on Christmas night at various bars in Clifton and Passaic before an argument erupted, leading to the stabbing death of a 32-year-old male, whose body was found on the side of the road along Route 21 in Passaic at 7:15 am Friday morning.

An hour later, Officer Ian Dubac pulled over a 1993 Jeep Cherokee for a moving violation at 198 Central Avenue in Passaic. Upon further inspection, he noticed blood on the rear seat on the drivers side of the vehicle. The blood was later determined to be that of the victim. A kitchen knife was found after a search warrent was executed on the vehicle.

Police arrested Jorge Sanchez-Alfaro, 41, from Passaic. He is charged with various offenses including hindering apprehension and tampering with evidence.

A second man, Jaime Castro, 35, was arrested at JFK Airport by Port Authority Police at an airport boarding gate to Mexico just after 4:00 pm. Police say Castro is the person who stabbed the victim, and are charging him with murder and weapon offenses. Castro is being held by Port Authority Police and is pending extradition back to New Jersey. Both men are being held on $1 million bail.
