ISSUES THAT MATTERED MOST:
The economy and property taxes are the top issues on voters’ minds in New Jersey today, and the economy is the top issue in Virginia.

A large majority of voters in both states are worried about the direction of the nation’s economy over the next year.

In Virginia, a majority of voters (55%) said Obama was NOT a factor in their vote:
8% said their vote for governor was to express support for Obama; while slightly more
24% said it was to express opposition.
38% of Deeds voters said their vote for the Democrat was to support Obama.
Among McConnell backers, less than half, 42% said their vote was a vote to express opposition to the President.
Was Obama a Factor?
In NJ, most voters (60%) said Obama was NOT a factor in their vote. For those voters who said Obama was a factor, 19% said their vote for governor was to support him, while 20% said it was to express opposition.
38% of Corzine voters said their vote for the incumbent was to express support for Obama.
59% said Obama not a factor.
Among Christie backers, 39% said their vote for governor was to oppose the President.
Obama gets a 51% approval rating in Virginia.
Obama gets a 57% approval rating from today’s voters in NJ.
THE TONE OF THE CAMPAIGNS
NJ voters said both candidates attacked each other unfairly. 51% said both did. In both states the Democrat was more apt to be seen attacking unfairly.

77% of Corzine voters say their vote for him was mainly to support him, while 20% say their vote was against his opponents.
Among Christie voters, four in ten (42%) say their vote was being against his opponents.
