CT Drops Some Charges Against 'Dinnertime Bandit'

STAMFORD, CT (AP)  -- State prosecutors plan to drop some burglary charges against the so-called dinnertime bandit to make the case more manageable for the jury.

Assistant State's Attorney Joseph Valdes told Judge Richard Comerford in Stamford Superior Court that some of the 40 felony charges against 54-year-old Alan Golder will be dismissed to make the case less unwieldy.

Golder was extradited from Belgium last November. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police obtained a warrant in 1998 charging Golder with 16 burglaries that netted nearly $1 million in goods between September 1996 and October 1997, as well as seven other attempted break-ins in Greenwich.

Investigators dubbed Golder the dinnertime bandit due to his alleged penchant for breaking into wealthy homes as victims dined unaware.
