Capturing History

NEW YORK (WCBS 880)  -- They are moments frozen in time - the Reagan assassination attempt.

'I pushed the button down, and the camera shoots six frames a second. There's only three where you actually see Reagan,' said AP photographer Ron Edmunds.

The Pulitzer-winning images captured in a split second by the AP's Ron Edmonds emphasized the White House photo beat can be a grueling routine - and, in a moment, history.

But often the most satisfying images are the ones that seem ordinary at the time.

'I love the picture of President Bush trying to get his dog spot to go into the Oval Office, and the dog just sitting there like "I don't care if you're the President"', said Edmunds.

The Associated Press photos on display at Federal Hall downtown tell a story. They're on display until the next president is sworn in.
