Vice President Dick Cheney Delivers Commencement Address at Coast Guard Academy Wednesday
NEW LONDON, CT (AP / WCBS 880) -- The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is preparing to welcome Vice President Richard Cheney, who will deliver the keynote address for the 127th commencement.
Cheney's visit Wednesday morning is also expected to be met by dozens of protesters and counter-protesters outside the academy's main gate in New London. The city has issued permits to the Gathering of Eagles, a group that supports the war in Iraq, and St. Francis House, which opposes the war.
Members of both groups were part of the 1,000 demonstrators at the academy last year when President Bush delivered the commencement address.
Cheney also delivered the Coast Guard Academy's commencement address in 2004.
