Conn. GOP Chair says Elections Bode Well for 2010
|
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- The chairman of the Connecticut Republicans says Tuesday's municipal election results bode well for the GOP in the upcoming 2010 elections.
That's when voters will choose candidates for Congress, governor and the General Assembly.
Chris Healy says Republicans picked up control of 17 new mayoral and first selectman seats, town and city councils and boards of selectmen on Tuesday. He says that gives Republicans control of the majority of local governing bodies in Connecticut.
Besides generating excitement for the party, Healy says it helps upcoming races. For example, he says winning the top seats in Trumbull and Darien will help the party against Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Himes.
Nancy DiNardo, the state Democratic chairwoman, says the GOP victories are not a sign of a growing Republican tide.
