Corzine to Sign New Jersey Health Care Expansion
|
TRENTON, NJ (AP) -- New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine is set to sign plans to expand a state health program to more poor parents and mandate every child has health insurance.
The plan to be inked today by Corzine is viewed as the first step toward requiring all New Jerseyans have insurance by 2011.
It mandates all children have insurance through government or private insurance within a year.
It also expands a program for the poor to include more parents.
That program provides free or low-cost health care, immunizations, hospitalization, lab tests, X-rays, prescription drugs and dental and mental health services.
Parents can join if, for instance, they come from a family of four that makes up to $27,645.
Under the new plan that would be increased to $42,400.
About 1.5 million New Jerseyans lack health insurance, including 275,000 children.
The new state budget includes $8 million to start the program. |
