Labor Day Parade in NYC

New York City -- Thousands of union members and political leaders marched on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue in one of the oldest Labor Day Parades in the country.
Over 400 unions were expected to participate in the Saturday morning march, which began under threatening gray skies.
This year's honorary grand marshals were wounded veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. They're affiliated with the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit group that helps injured veterans.
The parade is organized by the New York City Central Labor Council.
The city's annual labor parade hasn't been held on Labor Day for years, in part because workers didn't want to end their summer vacations early to participate. |
