Levon Putney

Since words can't begin to describe how excited I am to work for WCBS 880, I may as well begin with a little about myself.  After all...it is a bio!

First, yes...my parents named me after Elton John's '70s hit, so go ahead and sing a verse if you cross my path...I love it.  I'm originally from 3rd Ward in Houston, Texas (and still a proud Houstonian...especially with sports), but prior to WCBS I lived for six years in the great city of Cleveland, where I was a Reporter for WTAM 1100.  While there, the Associated Press gave me a few awards--including one for covering a story where I watched over 27-hundred people strip nude for a photo shoot.  Yeah.  That's probably why I wear glasses...

Before Cleveland, I spent a year and a half at WENY in Elmira, New York and eight months making minimum wage at a country station in Columbia, Missouri.  I now think "The Gambler" is one of the greatest songs ever.  My career actually got started at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where I graduated in 1996 with degrees in Broadcast Journalism and History.  I learned a heck of a lot.  The book lessons came in handy, too.

These days, I call Jersey City, NJ home, and the Garden State is my beat.  This means I want to know what's up with every issue, group and area around New Jersey.  So email me: LPutney@wcbs880.com.

I still can't think of any mind-blowing, descriptive phrases to note how happy I am to be a News Reporter for WCBS 880 in New York. By the way, I love NYC.  So maybe the best I can say is, "I feel right at home."
