NORTH BRANFORD, CT (AP) -- North Branford police have charged a convicted sex offender with trying to rape an 82-year-old woman who lives next door to him.
Police say Joseph Von Britton left DNA evidence of the scene after the attack on April 27. Police on Wednesday charged the 49-year-old man with criminal attempt to commit sexual assault, unlawful restraint and burglary.
Police say the woman called 911 at about 4:30 a.m. the day of the attack to report that she was attacked while sleeping.
Von Britton had been convicted of sexual assault in 1993 and in 1995. He's being held on $850,000 bond.
