LITCHFIELD, Conn. (AP) -- A Connecticut man who shot a fellow hunter by accident while killing a pheasant is set to be arraigned before a state judge.
Sixty-five-year-old Alden Brooks of Waterbury is scheduled to appear in Bantam Superior Court on Monday to face a negligent hunting charge.
Department of Environmental Protection police say Brooks was hunting in the Robbins Swamp Wildlife Management Area in Canaan on Oct. 17 when he shot and killed the bird. But some of the pellets hit 35-year-old Peter Paveglio of West Hartford.
Police say Paveglio was walking across an open field with another hunter on the opening day for small game hunting when he was hit. He suffered face, neck and arm injuries.
Brooks says he was aiming at the pheasant.
