More New Yorkers Using Seat Belts
|
ALBANY, NY (AP) -- A new study finds that more New Yorker's then ever are buckling up.
A survey by the University at Albany's Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research finds compliance with the state's seat-belt law at 89 percent. That's up from 83 percent in the past two years.
Researchers say they spot-checked vehicles at 200 locations in 20 counties to see if drivers and front-seat passengers were wearing their seat belts.
New York became the first state to enact a mandatory seat-belt law in 1984. Violations carry a $50 fine. |
