8th Grader Dies at Football Practice

WALDWICK, NJ (AP) -- Counselors are available in Waldwick after an eighth-grade athlete died.
It happened at recreational football practice Monday night.

The school district says the student collapsed shortly after warm-ups. An EMT on the field administered CPR and paramedics used a defibrillator.
The student was pronounced dead at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.
The student was scheduled to begin the eighth grade. His name has not been released.
The cause of death is not known.
School is scheduled to open next week, but counselors are available at the high school. |
