NJ Towns Working to Repair Beach Erosion

LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP, NJ (AP)  -- Bulldozers are busy along the Jersey shore as towns try to repair beach erosion caused by Monday's nor'easter.

State officials say beaches from Sea Bright to Cape May lost sand just two weeks before the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

However, the state says the erosion isn't severe enough to hamper the unofficial start of the summer tourism season.

Some towns experienced wind gusts of more than 70 mph.

State officials say wind-whipped waves gouged sand dunes in Long Beach Township, Brant Beach and Holgate.

Erosion left cliffs along some beaches, such as in Belmar and Montoloking.
