Nine-Year-Old Long Islander Wins 'Dream Day' with NASA
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Nine year old Sophie Saidmehr won a national "dream day" contest. She wants to be a Mars Rover engineer. So this weekend she gets to visit the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, California to see the Phoenix lands on Mars on Sunday. Sophie will be among the first people on earth to see the photos from Mars.
'I saw this movie called 'Roving Mars' and I thought it was the coolest thing. To just work at NASA, design rovers and see that first signal and get that feeling,' said Sophie.
The Dream Day contest is the brainchild of Westchester attorney Nick Katsoris, who wrote a children's book about lamb named Loukoumi who pursues her dream. CBS News reporter Alexis Christoforous lends the lamb her voice in the "Growing up with Loukoumi" audio CD.
