No More Direct Flights from CT to Europe

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT (AP) -- Northwest Airlines Inc. says it will end Connecticut's only daily, nonstop service to Europe in October because of slumping passenger demand and record-setting fuel prices.
The airline announced on its Web site that the flight between Bradley International Airport north of Hartford and Amsterdam's Schiphol airport will end effective Oct. 1.
The service was launched in July 2007. State leaders hailed it as a boon to businesses and travelers in Connecticut and western Massachusetts.
Thursday's announcement came just a day after Delta Air Lines said it will end its flights from Bradley to Los Angeles, the airport's only nonstop service to the West Coast, in September, also because of high fuel prices. |
