Outage That Disrupted NJ Transit Was 'Precaution' Says Amtrak
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Amtrak says it shutdown service along the Northeast Corridor as a precaution.
Spokesman Cliff Cole says the railroad decided to halt trains [WCBS 880] after a dip in power around the time severe thunderstorms were moving through the region yesterday.
Cole says Amtrak's policy is to park trains at the nearest station ever since a May 2006 power outage left trains stranded on tracks and in tunnels.
Amtrak and some NJ Transit trains were stopped for more than an hour.
Amtrak is still investigating the exact cause of the power dip.
