ALBANY, N.Y. (AP/ WCBS 880) -- More than 2,000 electricity customers are without power after severe thunderstorms rolled through eastern New York and a tornado warning is up in Sullivan County.
Most of the outages are in the Schenectady area, with roughly 600 more around Albany. Severe thunderstorm warnings were up around the state, with forecasters saying winds could top 60 mph and hail as big as nickels could fall.
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for northern Sullivan County, including Livingston Manor. Weather Service radar was indicating a tornado had formed.
The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 9pm for the following areas:
In Connecticut: Fairfield, New Haven
In New Jersey: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, Union
In New York: Brons, Kings, Nassau, New York, Orange, Putnam, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Westchester
