A Chance to Sing the National Anthem at Shea Stadium for The Mets

NEW YORK (WCBS 880)  -- Singing hopefuls lined Sixth Ave for their shot at getting to perform the National Anthem in Shea Stadium for The Mets.

The first round of auditions were held today in the SNY Studios at Rockefeller Plaza West.

Judging the competition were Recording artist and Mets' National Anthem singer Michael Amante, SNY's Gary Apple, and the CW11's Lolita Lopez.

WCBS 880 Reporter Marla Diamond checked out some of the talent.

Postal worker Harry Markowitz is hoping to take his singing talent from the shower to Shea Stadium.

But first he has to beat Steve... the whistler from Manhattan. He's performed at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and he's the only whistler that's ever been asked to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.

Finalists will be invited back to sing the National Anthem at Shea Stadium for the second round.
