Surgeon Arrested for Killing Gosling with Rake
|
MANTOLOKING, NJ (AP / WCBS 880) -- Authorities say a surgeon chased down a gaggle of geese with his boat and killed a gosling with a rake in Ocean County.
The New Jersey State Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals officers arrested Michael Coyle at his Mantoloking summer home Saturday.
Witnesses told police the orthopedic surgeon was driving his boat in a lagoon off Barnegat Bay trying to run down geese. Witnesses then said Coyle docked the boat and went after the fowl with a rake, killing a gosling.
The 62-year-old from Princeton could be ordered to perform community service or sent to jail if convicted of needlessly killing an animal.
This is not the first time something like this has happened recently. In May, a man was charged with beating three goslings to death with an umbrella in Middletown.
