Tainted Water Found Near UConn Housing
|
WILLINGTON, CT (AP) -- Health officials say E. coli bacteria has been found in the water supply of an apartment complex in Willington where many University of Connecticut students live.
Eastern Highlands Health Director Robert Miller says a strain of the bacteria found in the water supply at Willington Oaks Apartments on Tuesday is forcing residents to get their water elsewhere.
Miller says the contamination was discovered after state-required routine water testing was conducted from Aug. 1 to Aug. 30.
The company that manages the property is warning tenants that the water is not safe to drink and that they should drink bottled water or boil the water before using it.
It also said that the water supply is currently being chlorinated and that retesting would occur next week to ensure water quality.
