HERKIMER, N.Y. (AP) -- State police say they have arrested a 14-year-old boy and are charging him with trying to murder his stepfather and his 11-year-old step brother by poisoning them with antifreeze.
State police are not identifying the teen, who is charged with two counts of second-degree attempted murder as a juvenile offender. After his arraignment Thursday in Herkimer Village Court, the boy was sent to the Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center in Syracuse.
Investigators say the youth spiked a gallon jug of milk with antifreeze on April 22. The stepfather drank a small sip of the milk but stopped after noticing it did not taste right. He later sought medical attention but suffered no ill effects. The younger brother did not drink any of the laced milk.
