Toddler Found Dead in LI Pool

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP)  -- Police say a toddler has died after being found floating in her family's Long Island swimming pool. The tragedy comes amid new safety requirements aimed at preventing child drownings.

Suffolk County police say Jennasia Dominick's mother looked out her Central Islip window Wednesday afternoon to see the little girl drifting in the pool. She told police she had thought the 2-year-old's older siblings were playing with her.

Jennasia died at a hospital late Wednesday. Authorities haven't determined the cause of death.

New York's Department of State published regulations Wednesday mandating wave-triggered alarms in commercial and residential swimming pools built after Dec. 14, 2006.

Suffolk County launched a safety campaign after six children drowned in pools countywide last summer.
