NJ State Trooper Shoots Dog Named Trooper
|
ESTELL MANOR, NJ (AP) -- A state trooper has shot a dog, named Trooper, four times in a twist on a Estell Manor family's tragedy.
The story goes back to February 2007, when 15-year-old Raymond Lopez was killed as he crossed a road. Friends and family hung up his T-shirts and jewelry in a roadside memorial in his honor near where he died.
But town officials say the spot has becoming a gathering place for marijuana-smoking teens and this week removed the items.
Wednesday morning Trooper Ernest Lucarini went to the home of Raymond Lopez's parents to discuss the dispute.
It was there, police say, the dog charged at him and he shot it.
State Police say the use of the gun was justified.
The dog is alive but in critical condition at a Philadelphia animal hospital. |
