NEW YORK (CBS)  -- An elderly woman was seriously injured after falling through the gap in a Long Island Rail Road station in Queens, CBS 2 has learned.

Police tell CBS 2 the woman had gotten off the 4:11 train from Ronkonkoma to Penn Station at the Kew Gardens station when her leg became wedged in the gap between the train and the platform.

Officials say her leg was seriously injured in the fall and she was taken to a local hospital.

Police are on the scene investigating.

The incident is not affecting LIRR service.
