Report Recommends Keeping Izod Center After Nets Leave
|
HACKENSACK, NJ (AP) -- New Jersey would be better served by two arenas instead of one.
That's the conclusion of a report by a Meadowlands Sports Complex subcommittee on whether to keep the Izod Center in East Rutherford open.
The report, obtained by The Record of Bergen County, says the state-owned arena in the Meadowlands will make, rather than lose, money. The report says that's because the state is no longer saddled with an unfavorable deal with the New Jersey Devils.
The NHL team moved to Newark to play at the Prudential Center.
Getting hockey off the calendar opens up more dates for more profitable events.
The Izod Center is still home to the New Jersey Nets. The NBA team plans to move to a new arena in Brooklyn within three years.
