Despite reports Janice DeCoff was keeping a cow in her Ewing Township yard, she wasn't.

It was a bull.

Either way, it was an utter surprise to animal control officers, who made her get rid of it.

DeCoff tells WCBS she won the animal in a poker game.

Days later a friend dropped it off at her suburban Trenton house.  She made it cozy in an 8-by-8 foot shed out back.

DeCoff says "Mookie" was an instant hit in the neighborhood.  Kids would come by, take pictures of it, run around in the backyard.  Even the family dog liked it.

Then someone tipped off Animal Control Officer Matthew Barber.  Turns out there are laws against such things.

Barber agreed to split the purchase price with a Burlington County woman who took the 150-pound male calf to her horse farm to live out its life.

DeCoff says she already misses him.  So does the dog.

Today they had hamburgers for lunch.
