Journalist Dies After Polar Bear Swim

NEW YORK (AP) -- A Manhattan journalist is dead after succumbing to injuries he sustained while participating in the annual Polar Bear swim on Coney Island.

32-year-old Mohan Seneviratne suffered severe neck injuries when he hit a sandbar beneath the waves in the 48-degree water off the coast of Coney Island. The man was taking part in the New Year's Day swim that commemorated the beginning of 2007.

Seneviratne was a journalist for Esquire magazine. He died on Friday.
