Amtrak Train Strikes, Kills Woman in New York

CROTON HARMON, NY (AP)  -- A woman has been struck and killed by an Amtrak train.

The accident at 8:31 a.m. Tuesday was at the Croton Harmon train station in Westchester County.

Metro North Railroad spokesman Dan Brucker says the woman was hit by the 6:55 a.m. Amtrak train from Albany due in Penn Station at 9:15 a.m..

Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole says there were 180 passengers on the train who were transferred to a Metro North train that dropped them off at Grand Central, instead of Penn Station.

He said one track was closed in the area while police investigated, causing minor delays.

Brucker says Metro North trains were not affected by the accident, and they were on time.

The woman's name was not immediately released.

It was not clear what she was doing on the tracks.
