NEW YORK (AP) -- Emergency workers are trying to free a man who was pinned by a car that careened up the steps of the state Supreme Court building in downtown Manhattan.
The car mounted the sidewalk, smashed into a coffee cart and went up several steps before hitting the man. Two other bystanders appear to have minor injuries.
Workers are using a power saw to free the victim. He is pinned from about the mid-chest down and has blood on his face. A sheet is being used to shield him from the saw's sparks and bits of flying metal.
The dazed driver is lying on the sidewalk after being removed from the car, which has a smashed windshield.
The coffee cart vendor was not hurt.
The late-model, beige Nissan was heading north when the accident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. at 60 Centre St.
