Lawmakers Supporting New Slogan for New Jersey
|
NEWARK, NJ (AP) -- Garden State lawmakers have yet to agree on a budget. So it's surprising they're venturing into another divisive area: The State Slogan.
A few lawmakers think Roxbury eighth-grader Joey Saurian has a hit with: ``New Jersey: Home for All Seasons.''
But state Senate President Richard Codey isn't buying, despite state Sen. Ray Lesniak's pledge to get it officially adopted by June 30.
For the past three years, bigwigs in the state have been searching for a phrase to replace ``New Jersey and You, Perfect Together,'' which was introduced in 1982.
In 2005, Codey rejected a consulting firm's $260,000 suggestion, ``New Jersey: We'll Win You Over.''
The winner of a statewide contest - ``New Jersey: Come See For Yourself'' - was shelved because other states have similar taglines.
