SOUTHEAST, NY (AP) -- A grim day in New York's Putnam County for motorcyclists -- two people are dead and two others are in the hospital after crashing in separate accidents.
Police say a 24-year-old man from Westchester died when his speeding motorcycle went out of control early yesterday afternoon on Interstate 684 just north of the Westchester-Putnam line.
State police say Brian Hosang of Pleasantville was heading southbound when he lost control of the two-wheeler and hit guide wires that severed his leg. He was pronounced dead a short time later at the scene.
Minutes later, across the county in Garrison, a 60-year-old New Milford, Connecticut man died on Route 9 when a large tree branch fell and struck him on the head.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Department hasn't released the man's name pending notification of next of kin.
Two other motorcycle accidents of lesser severity occurred in Lake Carmel and Putnam Valley, sending both drivers to area hospitals.
