Vickie Allen

After 9 years spent alternately freezing and sweltering in the great outdoors as a General Assignment Reporter for WCBS 880, Vickie Allen made the switch to anchoring where she now alternately freezes and swelters in the studio. You can hear her anchor the news on many overnights Monday through the wee hours of Thursday.

As a full time reporter Allen spent most of her time covering breaking news in the five boroughs. She's been in broadcasting for 21 years and is a CBS veteran who came to New York in 1991 from CBS Owned WLTT in Washington, D.C. where she was News Director and Afternoon Drive Anchor for nearly 5 years. During that time, she was also a freelance correspondent at the CBS News Washington Bureau. She covered national stories such as State of the Union addresses by Presidents Reagan and Bush, the massive Pro-Choice and Earth Day rallies at the Lincoln Memorial, and she anchored nightly updates during the Persian Gulf War.

Before joining CBS, Allen anchored afternoon drive at Baltimore's News Talk Station, WBAL, where she produced several award-winning series and had the opportunity to report from East Africa and Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. In the mid 80's, Allen held an anchor position at the Associated Press Radio Network in Washington where she was also National Editor for the radio broadcast wire. She joined the A-P after a 3-year stint as a reporter and anchor at Viacom's country music station, WMZQ in Washington.

Allen graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. She was born and raised in Washington where she met her husband, Mike Gilliam, formerly with NY1 News and currently a reporter and fill-in anchor on Good Day New York and the 10 O'clock News at Fox 5 News.
