| National Geographic Kids magazine Editor in Chief Melina Bellows accepts a certificate from Guiness World Records representative Stuart Claxton during a ceremony to certify a chain of 10,512 sneakers laid heel-to-toe as a world record in the courtyard at National Geographic Society headquarters July 2, 2008 in Washington, DC. Assembled by the magazine, the string of shoes was certified Wednesday by Guinness World Records as the longest chain of shoes, measuring 8,700 feet or nearly 1.65 miles. The shoes will be shipped to Nike's Reuse-a-Shoe program and recycled into baskebtall courts and other play surfaces. |
