SMITHTOWN, NY (AP) -- A Long Island teenager has been charged with drunken driving in a car crash that killed his passenger.
Police say 19-year-old Devin Cholodenko of Riverhead was driving a 1996 Toyota in Smithtown early Thursday when the Toyota struck a guard rail and then a tree.
Cholodenko was ejected from the car and suffered a broken pelvis. He was taken by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital Medical Center.
His passenger, 19-year-old Scott Lamm of Kings Park, was taken by ambulance to St. Catherine of Siena Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Cholodenko was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.a
