Have a Question for the Governor?

New York Governor Paterson will be joined us this afternoon at 4p.m.

We took quite a few of your questions directly to the Governor.

LISTEN: Full interview with Gov. Paterson

READ: Paterson on WCBS 880

We'll keep this forum open for more questions that you feel should be brought to the Governor's attention.

Is there something you'd like to ask the Governor? What would you like to know?

What about Atlantic Yards?
With the severe fiscal problems facing the city and state; with the developer unable to put together financing and scrapping all the public benefits; and all the serious unanswered questions about the approval process for Atlantic Yards, will you have the PACB review this project's approval? More Money for the MTA
The MTA has an agreement to sell their 8-acre rail yard in Brooklyn to developer Bruce Ratner for 100 million, even tough the MTA appraised the land at $214.5 million. that deal has not actually closed. Wouldn't it make sense for the Governor to have the MTA void that deal and put the rail yard out for bid to multiple developers and get at least $100 million more for the supposedly cash strapped MTA? Status of Moynihan Station
What is the status of Moynihan Station, and the proposed new Penn Station? This also involves a new Madison Square Garden, if the full plan goes forward. NYC 'As a Right Policy'
Since March of 2007, the remaining homeowners on 83rd St between Astoria Blvd & 23rd Ave, Jackson Heights have been writing letters of opposition and/or concerns we have with the building of a McSam, i.e. Sam Chang Hotel in the middle of our block, at our front doors. Two homes were demolished for this purpose. We have been ignored by the community board, lied to by elected officials and just generally ignored by others and other nyc agencies, with exception of NYCPC, who responded with such glee about the development, we were ill. Do we have to call the news or tv to get a response from our elected officials? Atlantic Yards
With the state in dire fiscal straits, why are you supporting the costly Atlantic Yards project, which may end up costing the state and New York City as much as $2 billion dollars in subsidies and tax breaks? Since many fiscal experts believe that sportsfacilities return little in economic benefit to the taxpayers, why not scrap the arena in favor of more needed projects? Rethinking the MTA board
What do you think about having some board members elected by the people of NYC (not appointed) who actually ride and use the system? It's obvious from Vice Chair David Mack's recent comments that they are completely out of touch with the transit needsof New Yorkers as they sit in their cars driving around the city for free. When will you settle the Troopers contract?
Our NY State Troopers have been without a contract for over a year and without a raise for over 2 years. What is your office planning on doing with there contract? Gas Prices and Transit
I'm glad you never got behind the idea of a state gas tax "holiday." We need that money for critical transportation projects. Amazon Tax & The MTA
Governor Paterson you please repeal the Amazon tax? Buying on the Internet should be tax-free. Also can you launch an investigation into the MTA and how they spend their money? Stewart Airport vs High Speed Rail
The Port Authority plans to spend $500 million to expand Stewart Airport. Doesn't it make more sense to invest this money in European=style high speed rail, which would reduce pressure on NYC airports from small, regional planes? There shouldn't be hundreds of planes flying to Boston and Washington every day. The Port Authority plans to spend $500 million to expand Stewart Airport. Albany Has Too Much Power Over NYC
Dear Governor, Recently New York City has attempted to solve our transportation challenges with new policies, only to be blocked by State Assembly and Stat Senators. Specifically I am referring to congestion pricing and enforcement cameras on MTA buses. Will we ever see the day where New York City residents are granted the power to govern their own city without the veto power granted to politicians from the suburbs who have completely different concerns from those of us living in such a dense city. As a life-long New Yorker, I remember when the MTA was NOT a monopoly. Competition would force the MTA to function more efficiently. Why doesn't the State return control of the MTA BACK to NYC and let NYC split it up again. I'll bet fares would either remain at the current levels or go down. Cigarette taxes on the rez
Mayor Bloomberg was quoted in the Post a few days ago saying that MTA revenue could come from collecting the cigarette tax on Indian reservations. Affordable Housing for Middle Income Single Taxpayers
What can you do to provide more affordable housing for us single middle income tax payers? I have been working since I was 14 years old and still cannot afford to buy a condo or house of my own (I currently rent). Most of my salary goes to rent and to the MTA to pay my fare to work. I don't spend excessively, yet I still am unable to save money and live paycheck to paycheck. What can you do to help me and others like me? Taxes
Former Governor Pataki signed a law that requires New Yorkers to pay the difference in taxes if they make a purchase outside the State. Will you repeal that insane law? MBE/WBE Certification Delays
Dear Governor, We appreciate your effort towards increased MBE/WBE participation in State contracts. We however are finding that the only agency providing such certification, the Empire State Development is taking many months, if not years, to even get to review the application, which we understand is due to staff shortage. This delay seems to be defeating the purpose of the program as many of the qualified firms are unable to participate in the State contracts. We would appreciate if you can address these delays through temporary staff increases or simplified certification procedures. Thanks.
