DEA Seize $34 Mill. of Meth Ingredients at Port of Newark
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Federal authorities have seized a shipping container at the Port of Newark carrying $34 million worth of a key ingredient used to make methamphetamine.
Officials from the Drug Enforcement Administration say the ingredient is pseudoephedrine.
A DEA spokesman says the chemicals were discovered in a shipping container from India that was heading for Central America.
They were hidden among other pharmaceutical products and were not listed on the manifest.
Pseudoephedrine is commonly found in cold medicines.
