New Jersey Ferry Ridership Up

TRENTON, NJ (AP) -- More commuters in New Jersey are giving up the roads and rails for the water to get to work.
The U.S. Transportation Department says the Garden State had the fourth highest ferry ridership of 9.1 million passengers.
New York, Washington and California led the nation in 2005.
Weehawken-based NY Waterway had an annual ridership of 7,685,306 in 2005.
SeaStreak in Atlantic Highlands transported 370,360 passengers between Monmouth County and New York.
Both companies reported ridership declines of about 2 percent in July. The operators blamed tough times on Wall Street.
The Delaware River and Bay Authority, which operates the Cape May-Lewes ferry and the Three Forts ferries between New Jersey and Delaware, had 1,050,317 riders.
