Harrison Attack Prompts Massive Manhunt

HARRISON, N.Y. (WCBS 880)  -- Assailants followed an elderly couple from their Bronx business to their Westchester County home, then pulled them out of their car and beat them before fleeing with jewelry, police said.

The incident on Wednesday night prompted a massive manhunt, with helicopters and canines, involving several law enforcement agencies. Police also stopped a Metro-North railroad train after dogs apparently picked up a scent.

Police said the victims, who are in their 70s, were accosted as they pulled into their garage around 7:30 p.m. Three attackers then stole the jewelry and the car, which they crashed on northbound Hutchinson River Parkway. A fourth suspect fled in the car used to follow the couple.

Harrison police called the attack ``brutal,'' and said the man had a broken arm, and his wife and their housekeeper were bruised.

The three victims were treated and released from White Plains Hospital. Investigators obtained video of the crime from a camera on the family's property, Harrison Police Chief David Hall said. Harrison officials are offering a $5,000 reward for information on the suspects.

The same house was invaded in December 2006; that crime remains unsolved, said Hall.

Harrison is about 25 miles northeast of midtown Manhattan.
