6-Day-Old Girl Killed by Family Dog

HOPATCONG, NJ (AP) -- A 6-day-old Hopatcong girl attacked in her crib by the family dog has died from her injuries.
Sussex County Prosecutor David Weaver said Alexis Hennessy was bitten Saturday afternoon by Shadow, a 3-year-old Husky. The infant was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
It was not known what, if anything, prompted the attack.
Weaver would not discuss the incident at length, but said the girl's parents, whose names were not disclosed, were home at the time of the attack.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
The dog was removed from the home until the investigation is complete.
