Stocks Lose More Ground

NEW YORK (AP)  -- Stocks closed lower again today with the Dow industrials posting their eighth straight decline.

The Dow Jones industrial average finished with a loss of 128 points at 8,451 and down 1,817 points on the week. Declining issues on the New York Stock Exchange led losers nearly 2-1 on volume of 10.9 billion shares. The Nasdaq composite index was actually up 4 points at the 1,649 level, but posted a loss of 298 for the week. Roughly 4.1 billion shares traded on the tech-heavy exchange. And the S&P 500 dropped 10 points, closing at 899, down 199 points for the week.

While the session was a volatile one, the losses today were nowhere as steep as yesterday's

The Dow plunged nearly 700 points within minutes of opening this morning and then moved into positive territory with a gain of more than 100 points shortly before the closing bell.

Frozen credit markets and a loss of confidence in the world's financial system have caused the Dow to drop 21 percent in just 10 trading days.

Jill from Hunterdon County. We are withdrawing two thousand dollars from the bank and keeping a stash on hand in the house, just in case.

Sell Stocks - and everything we own
We've been selling alll the unnecessary items we have just sitting around our house to have the extra cash to pay for groceries and everyday needs. While our luck has been good with ebay, we've also turned to Tagsellit.com and Craigslist to sell stuff much quicker.

Pointing a finger
So far I've been fortunate that my retirement stocks haven't taken a huge hit. I guess when you're poor to begin with, you don't notice so much. Can't wait till Bush is gone and Obama is in!!!!

Delay Retirement
My 401K, IRA and IRA rollovers have lost value. At 58 I had hoped to retire by 60. Now 62 or 65.

How am I affected by the Wall Street crisis? I am very angry about the unprofessional conduct of the liberal media. Why don't they tell the truth about the causes of the crisis? It was caused by racial extortionists like Obama and ACORN forcing banks toloan to minorities. Then the Democrats made the problem worse by taking bribes from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to look the other way. Now I'm not only paying my mortgage, I'm paying for the minorities' mortgages too!
