Hit-and-Run Leaves Quinnipiac Student in Critical Condition

HAMDEN, CT (AP)  -- Hamden officials say a 21-year-old student at Quinnipiac University remains in critical condition from a hit-and-run accident.

Police say Robert Aliano, who is from Miller Place, New York, was crossing Whitney Avenue near the campus early Saturday morning when he was struck by a gray compact car. He is being treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Police are still looking for the car and its driver.

There have been at least four other reported incidents of pedestrians being struck by cars on Whitney Avenue near the university. One of them, police say, was an 18-year-old Quinnipiac student who died after crossing the street while intoxicated.

Lighting improvements were made in the area last year.
