Stamford Warehouse Fire Spreads to Other Buildings

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP)  -- Stamford officials say a fire at an abandoned warehouse spread to six other structures and forced people from their homes before firefighters were able to put it out.

No one was injured. Firefighters say the warehouse on Cedar Street went up in flames Sunday afternoon, and the fire spread to four buildings and two garages. Some residents had already left their homes when firefighters arrived, and other homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Deputy Chief Tim Conroy of Stamford Fire and Rescue says it's not clear yet whether the fire was an arson. He says it seems a person was involved somehow, because there was no power source to the warehouse.

A two-story home next to the warehouse was one of the buildings that caught fire.

The cause remains under investigation.
