Boil Water Advisory Lifted in New Jersey
|
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ (AP) -- Residents in 19 towns in Middlesex, Somerset and Union counties don't have to boil their water to brush their teeth.
New Jersey American Water lifted the advisory after repairing a broken water main in Franklin Township.
The 60-inch pipe ruptured Tuesday, sending water into the Delaware & Raritan Canal. The break affected an estimated 100,000 customers and forced the shutdown of schools and businesses.
The utility asked those customers to boil their water before consuming as a precaution. But authorities say tests show the water meets state and federal quality standards.
