Top 6 Dive Bars in the City

rgeyer@wcbs880.com

NEW YORK (WCBS 880)  -- Save a few bucks, get a taste of a *ahem* different type of culture...head over to any of these bars for a good time. Do you know of any that are a must-go? Let me know about them! Email me at rgeyer@wcbs880.com.

Upper West Side - Dive Bar is part of a chain of bars around the city. Any one of them is worth checking out.

Midtown - Some of the cheapest drinks in the city can be found in the same building as one of the most expensive department stores in the country. Subway Inn is a must-go if you're in midtown and need a cheap drink in a hurry.

Or try a WCBS staff favorite, Rudy's Bar & Grill. Located on Mid-town's West Side, this is the ultimate dive bar complete with duct-taped booths, nails in the floor, and the friendliest unfriendly bouncer in town. And the best part: Free Hotdogs!

Chelsea - A biker bar in the middle of Chelsea. Only in New York could that be pulled off. Red Rock West Saloon is not a place for wall flowers, be prepared to verbally spar with your bartender...and lose.

Upper West Side - Most well-known for being the go-to place for Allman Brothers concert goers, Yogi's serve cheap drinks and a lot of country music.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn - CitySearch voters decided Duff's as the Best Dive Bar of 2008

Brooklyn - Thanks to listener Ainsworth, we now know of another Brooklyn dive...Freddy's Bar & Backroom. They have live music and a very salty website ;)

Last week, our City Life Reporter Stewart Lewis checked out a few places. CLICK HERE to listen to his report.
