Top Ten Video Games for the Holiday Season

New York (WCBS 880)  -- It's Holiday shopping time and if you've got kids (or child-like adults) you may have to purchase some video games to put smiles on their faces.  Here is a list with some of the top games of the year to get you started.  It's in no particular order, and each title is a link that will take you to an online retailer where you can purchase the game.

1. Little Big Planet (PS3) - Rated Everyone
With the ability to design and share your own levels online, this game brings with it an enthusiastic community of online gamers who are continually creating new levels to play.

2. Rock Band 2 / Guitar Hero 4 (XBOX 360; PS3; Wii) - Rated Teen
Music rhythm games have become big business in the last few years.  The newest editions from the two main franchises bring new setlists, new instrument controllers, and hundreds of songs available for download.

3. Fallout 3 (XBOX 360; PS3; PC) - Rated Mature
The newest in a beloved PC francise, Fallout 3 is a deeply immersive action role playing game set in the post apocalyptic future.  It does contain some violence and adult situations so pick this one up for your more mature gamers.

4. Gears of War 2 (XBOX 360) - Rated Mature
This first person shooter does everything bigger and better than the first.  Microsoft's killer app does not disappoint and makes the perfect gift for your trigger happy XBox owner.

5. Resistance 2 (PS3) - Rated Mature
Sony's main entry into the first person shooter genre this year also comes in big.  With massive bosses and 60 player online firefights, this one will not dissapoint shooter fans.

6. NHL 09 (PS3; XBOX 360) - Rated Everyone
Continuing its dominance of hockey games, the newest entry in this NHL franchise comes equipped with new rosters and multiple control enhancements.

7. Madden 09 (PS3; XBOX 360) - Rated Everyone
The king of the gridiron games also dominates its respective genre.  With exclusive use of the NFL liscense and the gameplay that millions of players have come to love, there is only one choice for football fans.

8. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (PC) - Rated Teen
The World of Warcraft phenomenon is huge with millions of players worldwide.  Basically, if you know someone who plays World of Warcraft, and they don't have this expansion pack yet, buy it for them.  Now.

9. Wii Music (Wii) - Rated Everyone
This music game is made exclusively for the Wii and boasts a lot of instruments that you can play in your very own orchestra.  While not as complex or intense as Rock Band or Guitar Hero, this is a great starting point for your budding musician.

10. Money for Online Games (PS3; XBOX 360; Wii; PC)
Online games and gameplay add ons are big business these days.  Instead of a new game, your gamer may want money or gift cards to purchase things from XBox Live, Wii Ware, or the Playstion Network.  For PC gamers, services like Gametap allow you to download full games, and if your gamer has an iPhone, why not get them a iTunes gift certificate allowing them to download games from the App store.
